Uncle Allan Lena: Sharing Cultural and Tradition with Early Learning Centres

Nerang Mall has had the opportunity to discover and support indigenous education within Early Learning Centres, thanks to the incredible work of Uncle Allan Lena.

Uncle Allan Lena, a respected elder, has dedicated his senior years for part of his life to preserving and sharing the stories, customs, and knowledge of his people. In recent years, he has expanded his work to include early learning centres, where he has become an important mentor and educator for young children.

Uncle Allan has been working with early learning centres to introduce children to the aboriginal culture and language through storytelling, song, dance, and art. Nerang Mall has had the fortune to not only learn from Uncle Allan, but support his work at the Albert Waterways Children's Centre.

Through his work at Albert Waterways Children’s Centre, his rich story telling and teachings have broaden children’s knowledge on topics such as respect and friendship and plastic pollution effect on marine life, whilst exposing them to art, language and learnings of native and local species.

These workshops help create a welcoming environment for children to learn and explore, and his teachings have fostered a sense of respect and appreciation for diversity.

In addition to his work with early learning centres, Uncle Allan has also been involved in developing cultural education programs for schools and community groups. He has worked with educators and community leaders to create resources and materials that help to educate young people about the aboriginal culture and language.

Uncle Allan Lena is a true champion of culture and education. Through his work with early learning centres and other educational institutions, he has helped to ensure that the rich history and culture of the aboriginal people will continue to be passed down for generations to come.

Nerang Mall is excited to continue to learn from Uncle Allan whilst collaborating with local community groups to further discover and celebrate the aboriginal culture and language.
