You’ve landed yourself an interview—congratulations! Now it’s time for your next challenge; deciding what to wear!

We all know that first impressions matter, so finding an outfit that not only looks the part but makes you feel like your best self is key. When you feel good in the clothes you’re wearing, you’ll radiate with confidence and be ready to shine in your interview.

Before you jump into your wardrobe, it’s crucial to do a bit of research on the company to get an idea of what the workplace culture and environment is like. Are they a clean and corporate brand, or do they embrace a more edgy and creative vibe? Understanding their culture will help to guide the way—and if in doubt, always opt for a more polished look.

To help you on your way, we’ve curated tips and tricks to help you nail your outfit for every dress code.

Casual – retail store

If you’re aiming for a position at a retail store, it’s time to do some observing. Head to the store and take time to observe what the current staff are wearing. Are they rocking a polished and sharp look like the staff at Luv Linda?

Take cues from what the team in the store are wearing, then align your outfit with the brand’s style. For extra brownie points, you could shop at the store and pick up a new outfit prior to the interview. Make sure your outfit is clean and presentable, and to play it on the safe side, avoid wearing sweatpants, hoodies, sneakers, hats, caps, or shirts with big logos.

Casual – food service

Food service businesses often have a more casual dress code, and many will require standard uniforms. If you’re applying for a casual or part-time role, dressing too formal may look a little out of place, however, you don’t want to look untidy either.

Instead, opt for a smart casual style such as a button up shirt or long sleeve, quality tee, paired with pants from Rockmans & BeMe. Make sure your hair is neat and polished, and avoid very casual items such as sweatpants, hoodies, sneakers, hats, caps, sandals, or shirts with big logos.

Hair and makeup

No matter the dress code, it’s essential to ensure your hair and makeup enhance your professional image. If you wear makeup, opt for a soft and natural look and leave the full glam for another occasion (unless of course, you're applying for a role at a makeup store!).

Long hair? A neat ponytail is always a safe bet! For those with short hairstyles, you may want to opt for a sleek straight style or add a curl for creative flair. You could also visit SMAKD Hairdressing or Mario's Hair Salon to make sure your hair is looking neat and fresh prior to the interview.

There you have it, the ultimate way to find your perfect interview look. Remember, be confident and authentic, and let your outfit reflect the best version of you.
